BRAIN VOMIT featuring the undead TEDDIES

COFFEE INDULDGED BRAIN EXPLOTION

Contemplation of this scheme came about nearly four years ago. The conceptual design was roughly thought out at the foundation and until previously the creative process was virtually lost. Nevertheless, the idea, in spite of everything, escalated.

BACKGROUND:

The undead TEDDIES originally transpired from what “was/is” to become a traditional, full-paged issue comic book titled, Voodoo: the not so quite dead cat.

In Voodoo (TNSQDC), a human and a feline were in a catastrophic (excuse the pun) accident with the oddest of circumstances, in the shadiest outskirts of the city. Seth, the psychotic drug-dealer was lurking around these particular outskirts as the accident took place. He quickly took the two patients to his home, an abandoned toy factory, which had collapsed underground, strangely intact, some years back.
The human’s skeletal system was shattered beyond repair beginning at his cervical lordosis. Somehow, his brain was still functioning. The feline was the exact opposite. His body was fixable but, its mind exploded.
Seth combined the feline’s body with the humans mind. Using voodoo black magic, he fused the two together, giving ‘the creation’ life. In the folklore of a feline nine lives to be exact. Thus, how ‘the creation’ was dubbed Voodoo.
When Voodoo awakes he is introduced to his new comrades, the undead TEDDIES.
Basically this comic continues on following the adventures that these five undergo.

IDEA:

The undead TEDDIES acts as somewhat a promotional prequel to Voodoo: the not so quite dead cat.
Rather than using the traditional printed comic medium, the undead TEDDIES will be devoted to short three to five panels long, web comics updated fortnightly. Basically, this web comic’s purpose is to function as a ‘teaser’ as well as building up a target audience for Voodoo (TNSQDC).

STYLE:

RECEIPE [best served cold] EMMA’S (aka DONNIE A. MILLER (B) or DAMB) CARTOON STYLE:
A mixture of old animation styles inspired from such as Otto Messmer – Felix the cat and Walt Disney - Steamboat Willy. Amalgamate that with modern cartoonist such as the freakish Jhonen Vasquez – Squee, JTHM, and Invader Zim; alternate Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin – Tank Girl; clever Anton Emdin – Cruel World. In addition, transplant the spun out corrupt mind of underground 70’s cartoonist Robert Crumb – Mr Natural.
Result a twisted cartoon motif.

A combination of sharp, bubble and slight realism style are used to create the characters and the world contaminated by Seth and the undead TEDDIES.

INSIDE MY HEAD

What makes me TICK

I am currently completing my final year of Fine Arts- Communication Design, majoring in Animation @ QUT Kelvin Grove, Brisbane. (Blam! What a fun filled, caffeine injected, juice squeezing adventure that has been.)

I have been intrigued by 2D cartoons and animation since I finished suckling my mother’s teat for milk. Influenced early by such cartoonist as Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer, Felix the Cat… The Simpson’s, Super Ted, Mighty Mouse, Banana Man are others that have stimulated my prior passion.

MY first sickly sweet taste of the alternate underground world was my father’s collection of… Mad Magazines.
Two comic artists of Mad in particular, Sergio Aragones and Antonio Prohias, were eminent inspiration.

Now 20yrs old I have been corrupted by many alternate underground geniuses. Robert Crumb, Anton Emdin, Daniel Clowes, Jhonen Vasquez, Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin, Kim Deitch, Victor Moscoso, Mike Kazaleh, Matt Groening to name a few (trust me the list goes on and on like an energiser battery).

undergroundRIOT coming attractions:
• undead TEDDIES
• Cinder
• Video Piracy
• Pleonastic
• The final showdown issue of CSG

NB: REALITY CHECK
Alas, this is my final year of Com. Design. This is the year that I put all of the mundane yet, incredibly useful knowledge which has accumulated over the years, together.

Over the countless years I have gained an immense knowledge of 2D comic art and animation. Fine Arts Com. Design has also given me the assistance and motivation to improve my skill and style as a comic artist. The most influencing where subjects: - History of Animation; Architecture of the Body; Drawing, Creativity.
I stand now with a comic style that is unique but, still in construction. I believe that in the years and (hopeful) jobs to come, my ability along with knowledge will excel significantly.

The Undead Teddies will incorporate elements of web design with animation (3D and predominately 2D).

I have been dwelling over the Undead Teddies for quite some years now. This web comic medium is exactly the way in which I would like it portrayed.
I am planning to gain web space for next semesters subject Design Project B and continue on and actually making the Undead Teddies alive over the internet.
Hopefully, with this I can gain a small following through the university environment, which might encourage others to pursue the comic.
Undead Teddies is an initial tactic to promote myself as a comic artist, promote my other comics or works and gain an audience following.
